How to get your timing right

In most things in life, timing is critical for success. If you are out too early, you can, no doubt, claim the right to say “I told you so” for the rest of your life. But that’s about it. If you’re late, the idea will already have gone mainstream.

When it comes to business decisions, how will you know when to move? Is finding the right timing inherently just a function of luck?

I’ve always loved the saying: “It takes ten years to become an overnight success.” “Fortune favors a prepared mind,” is another great one. Both make the same point. Preparation is how right timing happens.

This theme has been on my mind all summer.

Just the other day a friend who runs the Smart Buildings program at TIA described how explosively the interest in integrated digital real-estate management has grown in the last few months in the United States. This hasn’t come as a surprise to the Nordic companies that have been paying attention all along. To the contrary. They are now forging ahead.

A similar example is the clear uptick in the interest in bio-economy. The U.S. demand for solutions has been building like in a pressure cooker. During the waiting game, things are happening behind the scenes. Companies cultivate markets and partnerships, hone their messages and optimize their supply chains. As the bio-economy industry comes alive, activity levels will reach a frenzied peak. Some will navigate the situation confidently and effectively, while others desperately play catch-up.

This dynamics holds especially true in the United States. The U.S. market is, after all, a high-stakes capitalist market, a competition. Miss the momentum and you’re a goner.

The call for sustainability is a third giant development challenging nearly every U.S. industry. Corporate trailblazers embrace accountability with passion and insight. It is fascinating to study how they define it, what they struggle with and how they implement their vision.

If you’re a Nordic executive and want to see up close how companies reinvent themselves as the demand for integrity and societal contribution becomes louder by the day, we invite you to join us in September for Nordic West Office’s Hearts & Minds Conference in Washington, D.C. This year, the big theme is sustainability and we offer you insights on how to carve out a role that fits your company and resonates in the market place. We’ll look at how to inspire, measure, train and innovate. Read more and sign-up here.

The ultimate objective is to help you gain the insights you need to be ready. Prepared, you’ll be at the right place at the right time.
